From Chaotic to Cozy: Inside Our Latest Playroom Makeover
Every family home has one room that was once meant for creativity, imagination, and hours of play…but slowly turns into a whirlwind of toys, crayons, misplaced puzzle pieces, and forgotten bins that stopped making sense a long time ago.
For our most recent Nest & Blossom project, we had the pleasure of helping a sweet family whose playroom had become a catch-all after their recent move. There was way too much stuff and not enough organizational systems in place. This resulted in the kids constantly dragging their toys to other rooms in the house, creating more overwhelm for their parents. If you’ve ever stepped on a LEGO at 2:00 a.m., you know exactly what we mean.
The Challenge:
This playroom was overflowing—craft supplies mixed in with random toys, books tucked behind dollhouses, and plenty of things that didn’t really have a home.
Nothing was wrong—it was simply a side effect of a busy life. Busy kids, busy parents, and a space that hadn’t been intentionally set up to support daily routines.
Our goal wasn’t perfection; it was to make play easier, make cleanup faster, and to make creativity feel natural again.
Our Approach:
We always start by asking these questions: what do the kids love, what’s actually being used, and what’s just taking up space?
From there, we began creating intentional little “worlds” instead of one giant toy room:
• a cozy reading corner
• an arts + craft space
• a pretend play zone
• accessible storage kids can manage themselves
• labeled bins that actually make sense
We sorted, donated, edited, and built categories that supported who these little humans are—not just where things should go.
Watch the Magic Happen:
Yes, we filmed the entire process (because time-lapses are oddly satisfying).
Before & After:
This part is our favorite.
What Changed for the Family:
• the kids could find what they needed
• cleanup actually happened (without a battle!)
• mom and dad got back some breathing room
• the space felt calm, cozy, and inviting
In other words… play started feeling fun again instead of overwhelming.
Our Favorite Moment:
When the kids first walked in after the transformation, their little faces said everything. They immediately knew where their favorite toys were—and they couldn’t wait to start creating again!
Why We Do This:
At Nest & Blossom, our work is never just about organizing things—it’s about designing room for life.
We believe spaces should support growth, imagination, and a little everyday magic, especially when it comes to kids.
